No dense clauses written to trap you. Here is what you get, what we ask, and where you stand.
Your license
The free edition is free forever, for as many books as you like. The Full Edition is a one-time purchase of $75 that unlocks the advanced design features, with a year of new features included. After that year your version keeps working forever, fully offline. There is no subscription, and there never will be.
Upgrades
When we ship a new year of major features, upgrading is a flat $20, no matter how many years you skipped, and only if you actually want what is in it. A tool you bought should not stop working because you stopped paying rent on it.
Your books are yours
We claim no rights over anything you write or produce with Squire Editor. Your manuscript, your files, and everything you export belong entirely to you, for any use including commercial publishing. That is the whole point of local-first software.
Refunds
We don’t offer them, and we think that is the fair version. The free edition is the full trial: it makes a finished book with no watermark, no time limit, and no export lock, so you can see exactly what you are buying before you spend a cent. Please take the free version as far as it goes before buying the Full Edition.
Fair use of the app
A Full Edition license is for you. Please don’t resell, redistribute, or share license keys. Beyond that, format as many books as you want, on your own machines.
As-is, and honestly
Squire Editor is provided as-is. We work hard to make it reliable and to output valid, store-ready files, but we can’t guarantee it is free of every bug or that a given store will accept every file. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid for the app. Always keep your own copies of your manuscript and exports; because they are plain files on your disk, you already do.
